A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step, so make sure that step is pretty damn awesome.
In all the wedding pandemonium, we end up skimming through pages of “visit me - I will make you come closer” kind of honeymoon destinations. But let’s be a little honest here, haven’t we all made up stories about that fake “office-trip” to our parents and taken our significant other on a small vacation already? Or the lucky ones with common friends who have already had a dozen holidays together under the guise of group travel with friends?
So for the most of us, the stage is set, this isn’t your first holiday together and with that variable in mind, our equation of a honeymoon is not going to be around getting to know each other more, but it will be all about heading out on an adventure, exploring the unseen and starting that crazy journey called marriage with an outing like no other.
And nowhere serves up a honeymoon with a twist like our very own gorgeous Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
1) Sun, Sand and well, lots and lots of ……..Sea (What were you thinking? You devil you)
Clear turquoise waters can make the sternest of hearts melt. To this, add pristine beaches and you are now on the verge of never moving back to mainland of India.Did you know that the difference in ticket price between the Andamans and Thailand is only marginal? This explains how far away in the Bay of Bengal these beautiful islands are located. Basking in splendid isolation, these islands have lured many a visitor to their shores over the years. Nothing offers a better backdrop to unwind with your partner after the wedding chaos. Take a dip in the crystal clear waters or sit back on the shore and let the calming sea breeze rejuvenate your senses. It doesn’t matter if you are an old school romantic or a 21st century charmer, Andaman and Nicobar will be a scintillating experience.
2) Moonwalking in the Bay of Bengal – why not?
Remember the first time you both held hands and never wanted to let go? If you close your eyes and think about it, you will find yourself smiling with glee. Didn’t the world just fade away then and it was just the two of you? It didn’t matter if you were walking on the road or catching a movie or just strolling in the mall. The feeling of just “US” was so overwhelming that everything else was just simply non-existent.
Andaman and Nicobar lets you relive that moment, the only difference being a sensational backdrop. Dive into the Bay of Bengal at the North Bay Island and walk through aisles of beautiful corals and exotic marine life; moonwalk if you will. You can try some mermaid role play down there as well!
3) Let things go south
What’s the southernmost tip of India? Let’s not start googling now. You will be surprised to know that Indira point in the great Nicobar Island is the southernmost tip of India. The 2004 tsunami usurped half the island, and Indira point is now submerged and no longer open to tourists. Campbell Bay Park on great Nicobar will now be your best bet. You can experience a sea plane ride on your way there.
4) Feel the edge
Indulge in some of the best water sports activities and a spot of snorkelling at the lighthouse and the south button areas. Or if you feel the need for some speed, jump on to a speed boat and feel its edges cut the water.
5) Nosedive into history and arise in patriotism.
Wouldn’t you be a tad curious to know how on earth people found their way to an island hidden away in the great ocean? How did it become a part of India inspite of its close proximity to some other South East Asian countries? The islands will answer all your queries and leave you enthralled with its stories of legacy.
Port Blair boasts of some fabulous museums. Learn about the indigenous tribes of the Andaman and Nicobar and how they survived nature’s adversities. Walk through museums which will entice you with the bio diversity of this archipelago. Dwell in the era of India’s freedom struggle with a visit to the cellular jail and hail our fallen heroes to whom we owe our Independence. The evening light show at cellular jail will truly make you savour moment of freedom we currently enjoy.
6) Want to go Island hopping? You have around 572 Islands to choose from!
Andaman and Nicobar comprise of some 572 islands of which about 34 are occupied with species such as ours, thereby giving ample choice even to the most decisive ones. It all boils down to the activity you both choose for the day which will decide your choice of island.
If the wedding madness has worn you out and you can’t think of anything better than lying on the beach, then the tranquil of Radhanagar Beach is just what you need. Voted as Asia’s best beach in 2004 by time magazine, this blue heaven will be the cherry on your honeymoon cake.
For you adventurers out there, trekking through the gorgeous rain forest of Andaman and Nicobar could make your day. You could walk the road most taken from mount Harriet to Madhuban or plan something even more fabulous to cover the amazing flora and fauna .
The islands of Andaman and Nicobar will bring you closer to the magic of nature and leave everlasting footprints in your mind. Let the colours paint a beautiful beginning to your married life.
