Picking out a honeymoon destination in India is a very tough task. And you know what? Picking one out in Kerala is tougher. You may have checked out glossy magazines and brochures with severely touched up pictures and seen a paradise-like depiction of this southern state. It's all true, and it isn't touched up. If anything, the real thing looks better. Whether you want a totally relaxed Kerala honeymoon with the famous Ayurvedic massages or you want to live out a Mollywood dream by dancing under the Athirapally Falls, you are pampered in God's Own Country. Since this is your honeymoon and you (probably) know in advance when you plan to travel, it makes sense to check out some Kerala honeymoon packages to see what works best for you. Here are some options for where you can go for your special holiday.
The hills come alive
Vagamon; Located in the Idukki district of Kerala is this quaint hill town that has bagged a spot in National Geographic Traveler's list of 50 Most Attractive Places to visit in India. Not that it wouldn't make this list if it hadn't, but just saying. Much has been said about its green meadows and scintillating flora, but hands down, this has to be one of the greenest places in the country. If you're a fan of adventure, you can trek along the three main hills here ; Thangal, Murugan and Karisumala, (each significant for one of the three main religions followed in Kerala), or try some paragliding.
Munnar ; Fancy waking up in a colonial bungalow to a cup of refreshing tea and a glorious view of the estate where the tea was grown? Munnar is the place for you. You can visit the Eravikulam National Park, home to the rare NilgiriTahr and other exotic species, as well as a great trekking area. Don't forget to take a ride in an open jeep to the Kolukkumalai Tea Factory ; the journey up hill along a narrow path with only tea plants as far as the eye can see is exhilarating.
Aqua-therapy
Kerala Backwaters ; A visit to Kerala is incomplete without a glimpse of the famed backwaters in Alleppy or Kumarakom. Imagine yourself on a boat that glides lazily on the greenish blue backwaters of the VembanadKayal, or spending the night on a houseboat with only the soft sound of the water around. It happens only in Kerala!
Shimmering Sea; Kerala's beaches attract tourists not only from every little corner of the country but also from all over the world. Kovalam is known to be a favorite among foreigners and why wouldn't it be? With its green-blue waters and golden sand dotted with majestic palm trees, it is a clear winner. Varkala is another one of Kerala's gems, and is also known for its mineral springs.
So there you go ; there's no dearth of honeymoon options in Kerala. Enjoy your trip and take back a slice of God's Own Country with you!
