Hampi is a village in northern Karnataka. It is situated within the ruins of the once mighty Vijayanagar Empire. The religious history of the village starts with the Ramayana and ends with the erosion of the Vijayanagar dynasty. A tour to Hampi is an interesting study of myths and archaeology of this place. Legend says that it is the birthplace of Hanuman. On the outside of the village is the Raghunath Temple which is dedicated to Lord Ram. This sleepy little town houses various Hindu temples with Vedanta mythology associated with them. Thus, Hampi tours are of both religious and historic importance.
