Often called the culinary capital of Asia, Hong Kong offers over 11,000 restaurants and a range of cuisine. The regional Cantonese and Chinese, specialty Asian, and staple international cuisine are easily found here, as with local delicacies like dim sums and seafood.
For an authentic Chinese meal, head to 'Yin Yang', where the chef grows organic vegetables and uses ancient methods like stone grinding in the preparation of the food. Try the waterless soup here. 'Tai Ping Koon' offers interesting options like roast pigeon and smoked pomfret, and has been around for years. 'Bo Innovation' is a trendy joint with two Michelin stars, offering a range of staple and outlandish dishes.
Try something unique at 'Tung Po Seafood' Restaurant. Squid ink noodles or fried rice wrapped in lotus leaf. This place offers a whole new experience with a range of staple and unusual Cantonese dishes on the menu. 'Fung Shing' is a traditional Cantonese joint, having been around for years. Try the Shunde classics here.
A Hong Kong specialty, many joints feature nothing but these small Chinese snacks on their menu. City Hall Maxim's Place offers too many varieties to count, and pushes them around on trolleys for you to choose from. 'Lai Garden' is another favourite, with many award winning creations. 'Lin Heung Tea House' has been packed since 1926, and serves a range of snacks with Chinese tea.
For reasonably priced Indian food, head to the Taj Mahal Club. International Curry House offers great curries, though steeply priced. Delhi Club and Everest Club are other popular Indian joints housed at Chungking Mansion. Gaylord Indian Restaurant in Kowloon is a classy affair with good North Indian food and live sitar music.
'Da Domenico' and 'Gaia Ristorante' compete for the top spot when it comes to Italian cuisine in Hong Kong. Da Domenico uses ingredients flown in from Italy and serves the best mozzarella in town. A pricy affair, but worth it. 'Grissini' offers a great Sunday brunch and 'Cine Citta' has a wine list to be proud of.
'China Tee Club' offers a good mix of Western and Asian cuisine in a relaxed environment. 'Towngas Avenue' allows you to watch the chefs in action through a glass screen. A unique concept, it is a restaurant-cum-kitchenware showroom. 'Gogo Cafe' is a quaint little place that's part Japanese tea-house and part laidback cafe. Serves great desserts.
