Egypt Tour & Travel Guide - How to Reach Egypt
Air
Cairo International Airport services most international destinations. Alexandria in Northern Egypt also has an international terminal and there are some low-cost connections available to Alex from the Middle Eastern countries like UAE and Bahrain. There are buses available to central Cairo that drop you near the legendary Egyptian National Museum. Taxis are plentiful as well though a lot of them will refuse to use the meter and quote a ‘fixed’ price. Sounds familiar?
RoadRameses Train Station (Rameses Mahatta) is located in downtown Cairo. Trains offer a great option for getting around Egypt and the sleeper Abela Express is an absolutely wonderful way to journey to the Egyptian South especially Luxor. Who’d want to go by bus or air when you could do an overnight journey in air-conditioned comfort in a train that snakes along the Nile? The downside? Tickets can’t be booked online. They have to be booked either through travel agents, hotels or by going yourself to the station. English may not get you very far with some of the booking staff and your requirements translated to Arabic on a sheet of paper might help.
RailBuses are another popular way to get around Egypt and air-conditioned buses can take you to Giza or further out. Cairo also boasts a comfortable metro although the number of stops is not very extensive.
