Road passage into Thailand is possible through Malaysia, Cambodia and Laos. Passenger vehicles such as car, van, truck or motorcycle can be brought into Thailand for tourism purposes for up to six months as long as you have the relevant documents. You can take the bus to Thailand from Laos and Malaysia. Your bus will stop at a Thai immigration post so that you can receive an entry stamp in your passport. For going to Combodia by land, you will have to hire a shared taxi.
Thailand is connected to Malaysia by train. The State Railway of Thailand and Malaysian Railway meet at Butterworth, which is also a transfer point to Penang or Kuala Lumpur.
For private boats, all foreign-registered vessels, skippers and crew need to check with the relevant Thai authorities as soon as possible after entering Thai waters. While major ports in Thailand offer port check-ins, most leisure boating visitors check in at Phuket, Krabi, Samui, Pranburi or Pattaya. Phuket is the most popular check-in point nationwide.
