Marco Polo Airport is a most well-known commercial airport. The Treviso Airport is a relatively smaller airport, generally used by the budget flight operators. Airport bus services link both airports with Venice’s Piazzale Roma and Mestre.
Trains run frequently to Venice’s Stazione Santa Lucia (or Ferrovia) from locations throughout Italy and major European cities. From there it is an easy matter to reach the city, vaporetti (city ferries) stop right outside the station).
A handful of other companies have the occasional service to more-distant locations but, for most places in Italy, the train is an easier option. The Piazzale Roma bus station is well served by vaporetti and water-taxis. All of the city is connected to Venice by bus. As you might expect from a city covered in water, there are no roads. If you’re driving in, you get the chance to park your car in Europe’s largest car park, at the entrance to the city.
There are regular ferries from Venice to Greece. There are also high speedboat lines run to and from Croatia and Slovenia in summer. The west end of the main islands is where the ships arrive, and it is well-served by vaporetti and water taxis.
