Although Kandy is just a hundred odd kilometers away from Colombo, its climate is vastly different from that of the capital city and let altitude take the credit for that. The town and its countryside, is lush and green and there are many nice trails and treks starting from the region. The capital of the last Sinhalese kings, the town has grown enough to be known as the only other real city of Lanka other than Colombo. The city is also home to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, that supposedly preserves and guards one of the teeth of the Buddha. Once in Kandy, there is a plethora of activities you can choose to pursue. Go along some of the picturesque nature trails, indulge in some authentic batik shopping, or visit some of the temples to get an insight into Kandyan history.If you want to buy some memorabilia before heading back, stop over at the Kandyan City Centre – Sri Lanka’s biggest shopping complex.
