'There is pleasure in the pathless woods, there is rapture on the lonely shore...' Wordsworth could well have been talking about the seaside town of Kanwar in Kanataka as he composed these lines, for the peace that it exudes is remniscient of the poet's musings on Nature. A continuing legacy from the British times, this town has even found place among Tagore's memoirs as a picteresque spot of calming seclusion. There is a nice little dargah next to the beach, and near at hand are also an an old Cathedral and mystic temples, resulting in an almost tangible aura of peace and relaxation.
Konkani is the most common language spoken here. People also speak Kannada.
