Surrounded in the Malwa greenery, lie the historic ruins of Mandu. The battlemented walls of this fortified city have seen many wars and stand there since even before the 6th century. It has exchanged reigns between various dynasties and rulers, including the Khiljis, the Mughals and Baz Bahadur. The Mughal emperor Humayun is even believed to have stayed here for a brief period, as he was struck by the beauty of this strategic fort. The fortress is also famous for the love story of Baz Bahadur and Rani Roopmati. Mandu has various outposts, mosques and Jain temples worth visiting. The Jahaz Mahal, which is sandwiched between two artificial lakes, is a famous attraction of the city. Other attractions include the Hindola Mahal, which has sloping side walls, the Rewa Kund reservoir, Roopmati’s Pavilion and Baz Bahadur’s Palace.
Hindi is the local language in Mandu.
