The most popular landmark in Rajasthan, Hawa Mahal is located in Jaipur, the Pink City. This intricately designed pink sandstone structure was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in the year 1799. The top of this five-storey structure offers excellent views of Jantar Mantar, City Palace, Sirdeori Bazaar, etc. The small museum inside Hawa Mahal, they say, evokes the royal past.
Standing tall near Tripoal Gate, this ancient landmark Iswari Minar Swarga Sal was built by Raja Jai Singh’s son. Apart from some great views of Old City from the top of the minar, it also features Chandpol Bazaar situated right next to the entrance.
Located at a Stone’s throw from the City Palace, Jantar Mantar is a ‘giant’s toy box’ for some, and ‘a mammoth’ for some others. This ancient structure was an observatory deck erected by Raja Jai Singh in the year 1728. The best way to explore this architectural delight is to go for a guided tour of 30 min to 1hr wherein the guide will explain the significance of each and every instrument inside the laboratory.
Served as ‘Maharaja’s hunting ground’ for a really long period, Ranthambore Park took almost 15 years to finally become a wildlife Sanctuary. Zoom into the untouched wildlife where you will find crocodile curling inside the lakes, tigers snarling in their natural habitats, wild animals co-existing with the tame ones, and birds creating music with their twittering. Ranthambore is a home to Leopard, Chinkara (Indian gazelle), nilgai, jackal, sambhar, chital (spotted deer), porcupines, and many more.
No trip to Jodhpur can be complete without paying a visit to this historical monument.
Renowned as the house of Jaisalmer’s Prime Minister during the 19th Century, the ‘haveli’ has intricately designed carvings and paintings that have used a good amount of gold. The entrance features postcards, pictures, and paintings from the Prime Minister’s time. Visitors are welcomed by royal Sandstone elephants.
It is a private haveli built 300 years ago. The haveli still exhibits the grandeur of the then Prime Minister Salim Singh. Arched balconies, finely designed architecture, the entrance, gates and the staircase surely deserve a mention.
Another architectural marvel in Jaisalmer is Patwa ki haveli. The pretty stonework and mesmerizing structure of the Haveli evokes rich 19th Century art and culture. Jaisalmer is a place for art lovers.
The lively fort encircles approximately 25% of the Old City’s population within its strong walls. The crowded streets packed with shops, the huge palace and the various temples sprinkled all around make Jaisalmer all the more lively and vibrant.
