The jewel of Srinagar, Dal Lake is a huge, glass-sheet of water perfectly reflecting the wooden balconies of the sleeping houseboats and the foggy crests of the Pir Panjal mountains. Fleets of colourful shikaras can be seen floating around the lake. Shikaras are used to transporate goods to the market area and they also transport children and visitors to the shore. A boat tour is must for all the travellers who wish to explore the scenic beauty of the lake and nearby mountains. The very sight of colourful flower beds floating on the lake will make you feel like spending the rest of your life in this lovely part of the country.
Set amidst the ruins of an old palace and the Dal Lake, Pari Mahal is well worth your time. This place is frequented by locals as well as visitors and is expected to get really crowded during weekends. The night time views of the garden are especially exciting. During the day time, you can hire an auto-rickshaw and take a ride along the garden.
Botanical Gardens: Many gardens in Srinagar date back to the Mughal era. Right down the shore of the Dal Lake, are the Botanical Gardens, a hot-spot among picnic lovers. Nishant Bagh: Located on the shores of the Dal Lake, with the backdrop of Zabarwan Mountains, Nishant Bagh is also popular as the 'garden of bliss'. One can also expect great views of the snow-capped Pir Panjal mountain and the Dal Lake from Nishant.
