Translating literally as the Buddha Who Dispels Fears, Luang Prabang is also known as the city of monks and hosts a massive collection of Buddhist temples and monasteries. Located in north-central Laos, on a peninsula between the Nam Khan and Mekong rivers, the city boasts of the The Haw Kham Royal Palace Museum and the Wat Xieng Thong temple, an important Buddhist temple. A short visit away, the Kuang Si Falls and Pak Ou Caves also attract visitors. There are flights to Luang Prabang from Siem Reap and Route 13 also connects the city to Cambodia.
Almost as eerily impressive as the massed warriors of Xian, the Plain of Jars is an important archaeological site in Laos. It consists of thousands of megalithic jars scattered in the landscape of the Xieng Khouang plateau. The jars appear in clusters, ranging from a single or a few to several hundred jars at lower foothills surrounding the central plain and upland valleys.Evidence suggests that the jars are remains of a prehistoric burial practice. Journey onwards to Vientiane, the capital of Laos stopping by Vang Vieng. In Vientiane, check out the riverside Mekong restaurants or visit the National Museum or the Patuxai Monument.
