Somnathpur
The star shaped temple at Somnathpur, 35 kms east of Mysore, is a splendid example of Hoysala architecture. The beautiful Keshava temple is the major attraction here.
Bandipur National Park
On the way to Ooty, about 80 km off Mysore, Bandipur National Park is spread over an area of 875 km and is a famous tiger reserve. Besides tigers, barking deer, tuskers, and bisons can also be seen.
Talakad
Talakad is situated on the banks of the river Cauvery (50 kms from Mysore) and is known for its sand dunes. There are a number of temples on the banks of the Cauvery in Talakad that are now buried under the sand dunes and are excavated once in 12 years for special worship.
Biligiri Rangana Hills
Another interesting getaway from Mysore (120 kms) for nature enthusiasts is the Biligiri Rangana Hills popularly known as the B.R.Hills. Though these hills are famous for the ancient temple on top of the hills, they are also home to a lesser-known wildlife sanctuary.
