• You need to apply for a Non Immigrant Visa (Form DS 160).
• You need to have a passport valid for at least 6 months after the time you enter the United States.
• Visa fees need to be paid beforehand at an approved HDFC Bank branch and the interview appointment can be sought only 2 working days after submission of the fees.
• You would be required to appear for a personal interview. The visa section of the U.S. Embassy, New Delhi and U.S. Consulate General, Chennai & Mumbai conduct non-immigrant visa interviews, by appointment only, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday, except for holidays and closures. The Embassy and Consulates are closed to the public on the last Wednesday of every month.
• You would also be asked to electronically scan the four fingers and a thumb of each hand without any exception.
• The US Department of Homeland Security's Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS) inspector at the port of entry decides your length of stay in the United States.
• You should be aware that a visa does not guarantee entry to the United States. At the port of entry, an Inspector may deny admission to the holder of a valid visa if your activities do not appear to be compatible with the specified visa category.
