Freak Street

Take a walk down Kathmandu’s hippie central. Freak Street acquired its name in the 60s, when hippies from the West thronged Nepal and settled in this area. A place with small cafes, budget hotels and kiosks selling trinkets, a visit here will take you back in time. The street runs south from Basantapur square.

Patan

Patan is a city of fine arts, enclosed within four stupas built by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century. The Patan palace houses a bronze collection, and there are many temples in this area as well, including the Krishna temple. Witness the hand weaving of Tibetan carpets at the Tibetan Refugee Centre and the Handicraft centre. You can also make a stop at the Sleeping Bishnu, the Kopan and Pahrping Monasteries, and Ason Bazar.
