Plantation Tours

If you are visiting Periyar, then you must pencil in some time for tours to the spice and coffee plantations, and the tea gardens near the sanctuary. Murikkady, which is five km from Thekkady and well-known for its pepper, cardamom and coffee plantations, is a place you wouldn’t want to miss. Vandanmedu is another place you may want to visit – a large auction centre for spices, it is 25 km from Kumily. Ayurvedic Massage

If you enjoy being pummelled and kneaded with medicinal oils, then pop into one of many massage centres around Thekkady for a vigorous Kerala massage.

Kalaripayattu Demonstration

Every evening in Kumily, there is an hour-long demonstration of the traditional marital art of Kalaripayattu. You'll have to ask around because the locations keep changing.

Kathakali Dance Performance

Kathakali performances are held twice a day at Mudra. If you arrive about half-an-hour early, you will have an opportunity to see how the artists dress up for this fascinating dance.
