The climate in this state varies greatly with altitude. The valleys at lower altitudes are covered by swampy dense forests, particularly in the eastern section of the state, and are hot and humid. During summer, maximum temperature in the foothills is around 40ºC and in winter it is around 15º to 21ºC. The areas around the middle belt of Arunachal Pradesh are cooler. Areas that are at a very high elevation in the Upper Himalayas close to the Tibetan border experience very cold, Alpine temperatures. The higher regions of Arunachal Pradesh witness snowfall during the winter. Arunachal Pradesh is also one of the rainiest states in the country and experiences heavy rainfall during May to September.
