The weather in Bhutan varies from region to region, depending on the topography and elevation. It is tropical in the southern plains, in the central valleys one experiences cool winters and hot summers, and in the Himalayas severe winters and cool summers are common. North Bhutan, towards the Tibet border, is cold and always snowy. Paro, Thimphu and other areas in central, eastern and western Bhutan have continental climate with cold winters from November to March. Temperatures in winter might be as low as -5°C to 30°C in summer. Southern Bhutan bordering with India is hot and humid with a sub-tropical climate. Winter temperatures average around 15°C in this region, and summer temperatures are around 30°C. Monsoon occurs between June and August when the temperature is normally between 8°C and 21°C.
