The different regions in Greece have varied climatic conditions. Northern Macedonia and northern Epiros have freezing winters and very hot, humid summers, while the Attica Peninsula, the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, Crete, and the central and eastern Peloponnese have a more typically Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and milder winters.
Spring and autumn are the best times to visit Greece, particularly May, June, September and October. Mid June to the end of August is very high on tourism so if you want to avoid the crowds then plan a trip during mid June or September and October. The tourist infrastructure on most islands goes into hibernation during winter, with many hotels, cafes and restaurants shutting shop from the end of November until the beginning of April.
