A popular tourist spot in Port Louis, Central Market, also the centre of the local economy since Victorian times is a good place to get a feel of everyday life in Mauritius as you buy some souvenirs. There are a wide variety of Malagasy handicrafts available, along with souvenir T-shirts. But this is a place to sharpen your bargaining skills because local sellers will try to hike up the price especially for tourists.
This is shopping complex that has a number of chic boutiques including knitwear specialists Floreal, Maille St and Shibani, Harris Wilson for menswear and Hemisphere Sud for leather goods.
This may not be as much fun as Central Market, but based in the Caudan Waterfront, this is also a more hasslefree market. You'll find upmarket souvenirs, such as Mauritius glass and essential oils from the Domaine de l'Ylang Ylang.
If you are looking for some original art, go to Galerie Vaco Baissac to buy one of Vaco Baissac's works or visit the studio of Francoise Vrot.
