Mt. Hua Shan is one of China’s five Great Mountains, and one of the most dangerous hiking trails in the world, some claim it is THE most! The trails up Mount Hua Shan have steep staircases, vertical ascents and a plank trail consisting of wooden platforms that are attached to the mountain with nails. Yes, you read that right!
Only an adventure junkie who has absolutely no fear of heights, and for that matter, death, can climb and complete this crazy hiking trail.
Some crazy facts about Hua Shan:
It is located outside the city of Xi’an.
The area has been considered holy since at least the 2nd century BCE.
The planks have been hand-carved by nuns and priests along the trail.
The mountain’s highest southern peak reaches 2,160 m (7,087 ft.)
There’s almost nothing that will keep you from falling off!
If you go slightly cuckoo up there, there is a chess pavilion to calm your nerves and mind, right in the middle of nowhere!
The whole trail and its dangers:
Its base popularly called as “The Heavenly Stairs”, as obviously you could DIE while attempting to climb it. These, ironically, are the EASIEST to climb though!
People go for this mad climb to get to what’s at the top.
Once you get to the top, you can take a gondola to the southern peak of the mountain, where the plank path and its craziness is awaiting your feet!
These images are alone giving us sweats, wonder how people actually muster up the courage to go there!
So what the hell is up there at the top of this dangerous trail that people risk their lives to see it? A tea house! Yeah, a Chinese tea house! That’s what sits innocently at the top of this killer journey!
If we were not able to make your head spin with this elaborate description of the mountain of Hua Shan, here is a video, taken by a brave trekker who obviously lived to tell the tale!
If you want to visit it, make sure you have a will ready at home!
All the best and do write and tell us the details of your “deathly tale!”
