That Kerala is picture perfect and breathtakingly beautiful is no secret. That it is the preferred honeymoon destination of many (Indians and foreigners alike) is no secret either. There are one too many places to visit in Kerala, with each place offering its own unique experience and adventure. When in Kerala, you can have the immensely calming Ayurvedic spa experience or embark upon the enriching culture tour or partake in the off-the-beaten track trekking holiday.
As far as honeymooners are concerned, Kerala is a dream destination which is specially decorated by nature and Kerala tourism. There are multiple places to explore and many experiences to gather.
1. Munnar
Munnar is a hill-station in the Idukki district in Kerala. Its name literally means ‘three rivers’ as it is located at the confluence of the Madhurapuzha, Kundaly and Nallathanni rivers. Tea plantations, exotic fauna and flora and a pleasant weather characterise Munnar. Couples can choose from luxury resorts to hotel to homestay accommodation options and spend some quality time together here away from the world.
2. Kumarakom
Located near the city of Kottayam, Kumarakom is famous for its backwater experience. The backwaters are definitely one of the best places to visit in Kerala and to witness them when in Kumarakom is a joy unto itself. Here, couple can choose to stay in Houseboat, private houseboats or in resorts that are located *in* the backwaters. With its natural beauty, silence & peace, sunset boat trips, Kumarakom is all about romance and being together.
3. Cochin
Cochin or Kochi is one of the most important ports in Southern Indian. A honeymoon experience here is all about exotic beaches and waterfalls. Also known as the ‘Queen of the Arabian Sea’, Cochin is a proper blend of the old and new. Couples can walk hand-in-hand in the French/Portuguese districts of Cochin or explore the ‘new’ town and indulge in some traditional saree shopping in Cochin.
4. Thekkady
Thekkady is all about spices and a ‘wild’ experience. From all places to visit in Kerala for a honeymoon, Thekkady is perhaps the most unconventional one. A visit to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary (777 sq.kms.) – the largest in India – is a must. If lucky, you will even spot the reclusive tiger here! Other times, you can visit the local spice bazaar and stock up on spices to take back home. A quaint town, Thekkady is where you can relax and let go.
