It is Asia’s very own sin city, it’s an A-rated stay up late kinda movie, its best to leave the kids at home, actually it’s best to visit before you even start thinking about kids, its sex tourism fuelled and propelled by testosterone more than anything else. No points for guessing, nothing is taboo in Pattaya, and I mean nothing.
Pattaya tourism has never shyed away from its ‘Adults Only’ tag. The place to be at is simply called Walking Street. During the day, it’s like any other crowded Thai street, vehicles buzzing past either side. But once the sun goes down, it takes on a whole new avatar, pretty much like when the fairy godmother waved her wand and Cinderella went to the ball. Traffic is completely shut out; walking street is meant to be walked down amidst the fairy lights and bright neon signs.

Age does not exist here, no colour, no race, no creed, not even gender. There’s something for everyone here, from the mildly curious to the downright wild. Bar-beers and go-go bars, strip clubs and discotheques, friendly ladies and even more friendly lady boys. There’s transvestite clubs, gay bars, massage parlours. Small shows happen on the street, and there’s some pretty good food. Eating out in Pattaya is similar to the rest of Thailand, popular street fare and fresh seafood.
If it’s all too racy for you, you can slow down and enjoy the live music scene or wander the night markets. Thai cover bands are everywhere, some are very good, most are average and some are just dreadful. The beaches are quite popular, there’s diving and water sports on offer, but then those aren’t exactly the top things to do in Pattaya. Pattaya is holiday hedonism at its peak, a place to explore your darker side, a place of self-discovery, perhaps!
The official closing time in “entertainment zones” is 1 am (in practice usually somewhere between 1 am and 2 am, depending on the location) - however “closing” is defined as switching off the music and non-essential lighting, numerous places remain open 24/7. Pattaya’s nightlife is everything they say it is and more…
