Famously known as the ‘Pearl of the Orient’, Goa with its magnificent natural beauty is a paradise for tourists. Dotted with swaying palm and coconut trees along with comfortable shacks offering a variety of refreshments, it’s a wonderful retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

From sightseeing to solitude, the beaches have something to offer to everyone. When thinking of a beach for sun bathing or enjoying water sports in Goa, you will be spoilt for choice.

Baga Beach

A good place for those who like action, it’s one of the most happening places in north Goa. From water sports to fine dining restaurants to a pulsating nightlife, this beach has everything to offer to make your holiday more fun. Look forward to dolphin-spotting trips that will take your heart away.

Calangute Beach

It is without doubt one of the most popular of Goa beaches and also the busiest. Go there if you want to party, check out the crowd or get checked out by the crowd. This is our “Queen of the Beaches”, and here you’d find everything necessary for a tourist’s survival and luxury — shacks, cafes, shops, guesthouses. In case you are more of a private person, check out the rest of the list and take your pick.

Anjuna Beach

Made famous by the ‘flower, power, peace’ generation of the sixties and the early seventies, it is well-known for celebrating the Indian hippie era. It continues to attract droves of backpackers and is a favourite with long-stayers and first-timers alike. It draws many visitors to its weekly flea market held every Wednesday.

Sinquerim Beach

This pristine beach is famous for the imposing Fort Aguada (that has now been converted into a prison) that flanks its southern tip and is a popular tourist attraction. It’s an ideal place for water-skiing, para-sailing, fishing, scuba-diving and wind-surfing. With its spectacular stretch of sand, it’s the perfect place to go for a long beach walk.

Candolim Beach

The long, straight stretch of Candolim beach is lively, yet peaceful in certain areas, making it a good alternative to the maddeningly crowded Baga beach. This is the first beach that can be approached from the city of Panaji. Lined with shacks and bars, this place is worth a visit when you’re in Goa.

Varca Beach

Tranquil, calm, clean and almost hawker-free, this beach makes it easy for you to find a quiet place for yourself. The seemingly endless rows of palm trees and the pristine stretch of white sand make Varca alluring and hard to miss.

Cavelossim Beach

The contrasting pair of black rocks and white sand adds to the beauty of this beach. That’s not all. The crystal clear water and the calm breeze are gentle and relaxing. Home to some of the most exclusive and luxurious resorts in Goa, it’s the best place to pamper yourself.

Dona Paula Beach

This idyllic, rocky tourist attraction was named after the Portuguese Viceroy’s daughter, Dona Paula de Menezes. It is an eternal tribute to her forbidden love to a fisherman as the match was not accepted by the Viceroy. After all the fun, if you’re looking for some food for thought, then you can visit the Marine Biology Museum and the National Oceanography Institute to study the local Goan marine life.

Colva Beach

Unlike Anjuna, Colva has recently gained popularity. Apart from the beach, the miraculous statute of Menino Jesus attracts tourists. Colva is particularly busy in October when the locals celebrate the annual religious event called Fama of Menino Jesuse where a big fair is held at the beach.

Agonda

Quiet and relatively less crowded, the long and isolated stretch of Agonda beach is the best place to enjoy the tranquillity of nature. Stay in a simple hut or go for a swim, it is a perfect getaway.

Sometimes delightfully secluded and sometimes reverberating with fun and frolic, enjoy the different hues of Goa through its beaches.
