Australian fast bowler Brett Lee has been roped in to promote the country’s tourism in India. The tourism board has been doing some great work in its bid to woo Indian tourists to the land down under, and roping in handsome ‘Binga’ – a name his cricket team mates gave him - is a smart decision, going by his popularity in India.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Lee has been named a ‘Friend of Australia’ under Tourism Australia’s Advocacy Program. The ‘Friends of Australia’ program has over 160 advocates, including Antonia Kidman, TV star Michael Caton and businessman Dick Smith.
The speedster, who has visited India over sixty times and often called the country his ‘second home’ will be welcoming over 70 Indian travel agents and taking them around the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground. Currently in Melbourne to participate in a six-day India Mega Family Workshop, the tour operators will also be visiting Sydney, Gold Coast and Perth.
Tourism Australia believes that the Indian market is worth an estimated 2 billion (USD) and expects upto 300,000 potential annual visitors by the end of the decade.
