Ten eminent women from across the globe were invited to serve as ceremonial godmothers for the ships. Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking Cruises, said: “Today is a proud day for Viking and for river cruising. We are honored to showcase 10 of our revolutionary new Longships and to have had such a celebrated group of women helping us christen them.” He added, “Our guests are explorers, just like the ancient Vikings of our Norse heritage, which is why we deliver authentic and enriching travel experiences like no other cruise line.”
The ceremony was witnessed by an excited crowd of around 700 gathered at the port of Amsterdam. Four of the ships were christened here, while the remaining six were named from a shipyard in Germany via satellite. A Guinness World Records adjudicator was present at the event to officiate this achievement in river cruising. The previous record was of two ships launched at the same time. The celebrations included a gala onboard dinner, and of course, a maiden cruise. Sail away!
