In an effort to keep Gujarat clean and green, the state government has decided to launch a pilot project in Gujarat - to run electric buses for public transport between capital Gandhinagar and key city Ahmedabad.
The key points of this project:
- Electric Vehicles and Solar Based Electric Charging System pilot project has been inspired by Narendra Modi’s vision to introduce environment-friendly initiatives.
- GPCL has invited expression of interest from the potential companies interested in the project which has been flashed on its official website.
- Around 15-40 buses will be started in the initial phase
Initially, electric buses will be running from Gandhinagar to Ahmedabad and the success of the first phase will lead to the implementation of this project in other parts of the state.
The main motive of the green project - Reduce the carbon emission and to create an ecological equilibrium by using non-traditional fuel like electricity.
The project is currently in the bidding stage. The profile of the bidders will be scrutinized after taking into account their capabilities and strength to proceed with the project.
Gujarat was the first state in India to introduce a “climate change department”. If all goes well, it will be launched by the end of 2014.
