Cathay Pacific climbed up from sixth place last year to displace 2013’s winner, Emirates. With this win, they’ve set a new record becoming the first airline to win the top slot four times - 2003, 2005, 2009 and 2014.
“Of all the sellers, Cathay were the best performers across all types of travel. Some airliners were very good in economy, others in luxury, but they were top or near the top in all categories.“
Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax
Asian and Middle Eastern airlines dominated the top 10 as always, but two European airlines also made the list, with Turkish Airlines climbing to number 5 from number 9 last year, and German carrier Lufthansa rounding out the top 10.
Garuda Indonesia came out on top for the best cabin crew, ahead of both Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines. Singapore Airlines won the award for best first class cabin, Qatar for best business class and Korea’s Asiana for best economy class cabin.
The World Airline Awards, run by Skytrax are awards one of the most high-profile in the aviation industry. They were announced at the Farnborough International Air Show in the UK, which prides itself on facilitating first-class business opportunities for the global aerospace industry.
