For those of you wondering what exactly electronic cigarettes are, they are nicotine-containing devices used to simulate the experience of smoking. They release vapours and not smoke. According to consumer market research company Euromonitor International, they are ”non-tobacco containing, non-combustible cigarettes which work by vaporizing nicotine liquid.”
The 325-square-feet large ‘vaping zone’ as it is being called by many is a venture initiated by Gamucci, a leading electronic cigarette manufacturer. The timings for the lounge are 5:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., though the area is out of bounds for anyone aged below 18. The company also has a store where customers can try and purchase products.
This move by the Heathrow Airport is an exceptional one since there has been a rising demand for a ban on e-cigarettes since they pose as a potential gateway into nicotine addiction. Most U.S. and European airlines have banned the use of this product. In England, e-cigarettes have been banned in several trains, airplanes, bars and restaurants.
